ADC World Open – Postponed during cost of living crisis
The ADC World Darts Open has been postponed in the face of the bleakest financial winter the World has faced in over 40 years.
The cost of living crisis has resulted in players severely cutting back on all none essential purchases, even though the initial take up and interest was superb.
The ADC tried to renegotiate prices and dates of the event to help subsidise the cost of living crisis, however, their schedule and rising costs meant this was not achievable.
Steve Brown ADC Chairman said "We’re obviously disappointed seeing the event postponed as we’ve exhausted every avenue to keep the event live”
“Entries were going great but have fallen off a cliff over the last three weeks with the daily news of the expected rising costs everyone is facing this winter. It would be financially reckless to commit to such a huge event using sponsors good money to host an event nobody can realistically afford to attend. We have built some unbelievable momentum and will continue to focus on our affordable regional formats and leagues for the remainder of 2022.
Scott Hunt ADC Head of Operations added "There will be many players rightly upset at this postponement and we hope that they can see that we are acting in the best interests of darts and future opportunities in the long run”.
“Anyone that has been directly affected by the postponement via the UK OOM , Title Holders and International Qualifiers will be compensated for their efforts. We are looking into the extra opportunity for some players to compete at the Modus Online Darts Live League this winter".
Steve Brown concluded saying "The ADC are committed to growing amateur darts and creating the best opportunities for every single player in the world no matter what level they play at”.
“We will update our members as soon as we can secure a new venue and dates and we thank every single darts player for their support who has helped build the ADC is such a short space of time".
All entry fees and accommodation deposits will be refunded.
The ADC Winmau UK Opens and Red Dragon singles leagues are live with over 5,000 players involved to date.
